The most common reason for wanting a breast implant replacement is because you want to change your breast size, either to a larger or smaller volume. If the first operation is done via an incision in the armpit, the prosthesis replacement can be done via the same incision in the armpit.
There again, if the previous operation was done via an incision under the breast, the same incision under the breast will be used to avoid new scarring. Sometimes the reason for a prosthetic change can be that the breasts have become limp and saggy, then a replacement can be combined with a breast lift. If the breasts become hard or have an unnatural shape, it may be because during the previous operation the prostheses were placed on the chest muscle.
Then the prostheses will be relocated to a position below the chest muscle for a softer and more natural result, the size can also be changed at the same time of surgery. The operation is always done under anaesthesia and you’ll spend one night at the clinic. As a bandage, one has a cut, underwired bra and a band on top of the breasts for up to four weeks to reshape the breasts. The sick leave period is about two weeks.
