If your ears stick very far out from your head, they can be angled back and adjusted via incisions behind the ears. The operation, which can bee done on both children and adults, takes about an hour and is done under general anaesthesia. You will be signed out the same day.
At the end of the operation, a turban-like bandage is added which should be left untouched for a week. After that, it’s recommended that you use a dressing at night, like a normal headband, for two weeks.
The dressing should be kept dry. So refrain from washing your hair for a week until the first dressing is removed.
Two weeks after the operation, the stitches are removed behind the ears.
During the first few days after the operation there’s often a fairly intense pain. You will be given painkillers to take with you when you go home. You’ll be swollen and will have bruises for about two weeks.
Exercise and other vigorous exertions should be avoided for the first two weeks.
You can sunbathe from two weeks after the surgery but the scars must be protected against sun exposure for three months or until they have faded.
