How does Lightsheer work?
LightSheer’s diode laser produces a laser beam with a specific wavelength that’s optimal for hair removal. During treatment, the laser beam is emitted for a fraction of a second, which is sufficient for the pigment in a large number of the hair follicles to be absorbed and heated. As the hair follicle heats up, the hair strand is destroyed, without damaging the surrounding skin, and the ability of the hair to grow back again is greatly reduced. An important part of the treatment is the contact-cooling handpiece that cools the skin and offers the possibility of treating even the most sensitive skin. The handpiece protects and cools the top layer of the skin, during and after each laser pulse, while directing laser energy to the hair root.
What does the treatment involve?
Your treatment begins with shaving the hair on the treatment area. A cold gel is usually applied to the area to be treated and you’ll be given dark glasses to protect your eyes from the laser light. You may feel a slight tingling with every pulse of light, but most people can handle the treatment without local anaesthetic. When the gel is wiped off, some hair that has penetrated through to the surface goes with it. The remaining hair will come loose within 2-3 weeks. Keep in mind that you should not have tanned skin when you are being treated.
What should you expect?
What the treated area will look like immediately after the treatment varies between individuals, depending on the scope and type of treatment. You may experience some minor redness or swelling of the treated area. In fact, these are positive clinical results showing that the hair follicle is responding to treatment.
Side effects are rare and if they occur they are usually minor. Most people can return to their normal activities immediately.
It’s important to know that hair that’s in an active growth phase is most affected by the laser. Since not all hairs are in this phase at the same time, several treatments are necessary to achieve the best results (usually between 5-8 treatments).
