Hair reduction with LightSheer is a safe, non-invasive treatment that reduces the number of persistently re-growing hairs. The laser light is used to damage the hair follicles and reduce the hair's ability to grow back again.
LightSheer’s diode laser produces a laser beam with a specific wavelength that’s optimal for hair removal. During treatment, the laser beam is emitted for a fraction of a second, which is sufficient for the pigment in a large number of the hair follicles to be absorbed and heated. As the hair follicle heats up, the hair strand is destroyed, without damaging the surrounding skin, and the ability of the hair to grow back again is greatly reduced. An important part of the treatment is the contact-cooling handpiece that cools the skin and offers the possibility of treating even the most sensitive skin. The handpiece protects and cools the top layer of the skin, during and after each laser pulse, while directing laser energy to the hair root.
Laser hair removal involves shaving off all the hair in the treatment area. A cold gel is then applied to the area and you will be asked to wear dark sunglasses to protect your eyes from the laser light. Most people do fine without local anesthesia, and you can expect a slight stinging sensation with each pulse of light. When the treatment is complete, the gel is wiped off, taking some of the hair with it. The rest of the hair will fall out over the next 2-3 weeks.
What the treated area will look like immediately after the treatment varies between individuals, depending on the scope and type of treatment. You may experience some minor redness or swelling of the treated area. In fact, these are positive clinical results showing that the hair follicle is responding to treatment.
Side effects are rare and if they occur they are usually minor. Most people can return to their normal activities immediately.
It’s important to know that hair that’s in an active growth phase is most affected by the laser. Since not all hairs are in this phase at the same time, several treatments are necessary to achieve the best results (usually between 5-8 treatments).
